InterContinental Maldives collaborates with acclaimed British artist Nina Brooke and the Manta Trust to support the cause of manta ray conservation. Our resort, situated on the edge of a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, serves as a vital location for the aggregation of juvenile manta rays. The roots of our commitment to manta ray conservation extend back to 2019 when InterContinental Maldives forged this partnership to pursue a mission of research and education for guests. The collaboration with Nina Brooke marked a significant step in supporting the preservation of these gentle giants in giving the Manta Trusts work a new platform to share about their work and the need for preservation of our fragile ecosystem in the Maldives.
Teaming up with the Manta Trust, a global leader in manta ray research, InterContinental Maldives contributes to studying the island's manta ray population, their distribution and migration. Recognizing the vulnerable status of reef manta rays and coral reefs, our collaboration with the Manta Trust aims to deepen knowledge and guide targeted conservation efforts.
In November 2023, we had the privilege of hosting Nina Brooke, an esteemed artist hailing from the picturesque coastal landscapes of Cornwall, UK. Nina, renowned for her captivating portrayals of the English coastline, took her artistic endeavours global, finding inspiration in diverse locations.
As part of her residency at InterContinental Maldives, Nina Brooke created a bespoke masterpiece dedicated to the Manta Trust, aiming to collect donations for their work.
The resonance of Nina Brooke's artistic talents echoed beyond the canvas. At a recent charity event, the bespoke masterpiece crafted during her residency was auctioned and found a new home, with the returns being fully donated to the Manta Trust.
