The crystalline waters of Maamunagau lagoon cradle not only the breathtaking beauty of the Maldives but also serve as a nursery for some of the ocean's most charismatic residents – Manta pups.
Here, in the heart of the Indian Ocean, we introduce you to our favourite five manta babies who have chosen to return to our lagoon over and over again.
Ava Long
Ava Long debuted as a young of the year in February 2020, a mere speck in the ocean's vastness. Since then, she has become a familiar presence, often spotted in the shallower regions of Maamunagau lagoon, creating a special connection with our guests who adopted her in March 2022.
Baby Gulacsi
Baby Gulacsi is a charismatic juvenile known for his inquisitive nature. Most frequently sighted during the mid-months of the northeast/Iruvai monsoon, he adds a playful energy to the waters. His charm has endeared him to the hearts of those fortunate enough to encounter him.
Fraenk
Fraenk, though shy in nature, is a seasonal returning individual. Frequently spotted along the northern edge of Maamunagau Lagoon in 2023. He has noticeably grown since his initial sighting in 2021, offering a glimpse into the fascinating journey of these majestic creatures.
Lulu
Lulu's story began as a tiny newborn Manta near the resort. With the remnants of natal folds on her pectoral fins and evidence of her recent birth when first spotted in February 2019, she has grown and ventured back to the Maamunagau lagoon during subsequent Northeast seasons—a testament to the enduring cycle of life.
Zoomie
Zoomie, the newest addition to our manta family, debuted just last season in 2023. Despite a natural deformity in her pelvic fins, she is naturally curious. Adopted by Zoom Vacations TA, she has become a cherished member of our underwater community, gracing Maamunagau lagoon with her presence.
